Sharing time.

It happened yesterday at my workplace.

To begin with there are about 18 staffs, 6 of them are not permanent staffs. I am one of them. We need to renew our work contract every year. One of the rules written on it stated that we have to be ready to move to other area when needed. Fine for me.

We heard the news about having two permanent staffs coming two months ago and, as a contract staffs, we’d be prepared to be replaced. I am not worried nor care about the idea.

On Monday, 22 February, all of new permanent staffs came and it meant two of us must have moved.

I was so excited to move but some of my seniors suggested to the headmistress to keep me. They have strong voices. Nothing I could do about this but undergoing the path that’s been written.

It looks unfair for my other fellows but without my knowing, two of my fellows had made agreement with the headmistress to move, I don’t know the reason but it made me less guilty to be honest.

So in order to make it fair, they would do it by writing their name on a small piece of paper then rolled it and put it in a bottle. They then shook the bottle. The agreement was; any name who came out of the bottle, would be the one who moved to the closest area from our workplace. Both of them agreed.

It looked so simple and seemed nothing could go wrong.

On a paper.

But not in the reality.

So...

Two of them, let’s call them Apple and Rose.

From outside, they looked so close like best buddies.

I have been working there about 4 years now and I always thought that they were best friends till yesterday.

So both of them really wanted to move to the nearest area (first place) but sadly the place only needs one employee so the other one has to move to second area which is about two killometres away from previous place (it looks fine actually).

So the headmistress set the rule whoever name came out, will be put in the first place.

Apple minded at first saying that if she moved to second place, it would be hard for her to watch her mom who is sick and harder to go back and forth from the work place if she was put in the second area.

The headmistress silent for awhile then said something – I forgot what she said – all I remember that Apple agreed to the rule that was set.

With nice gesture, tone, and sweet words she said something like agree with the rule and ready to be placed in any other area. She looked so sincere and genuine and nothing seemed go wrong.

So they put their names in the bottle and a senior shook it. A paper came out. She opened it and read it loudly: ROSE.

Rose was very delight and grateful of it because she really wanted to be in first area.

But Rose’s delightness was only for a second.

By the time Rose name was announced, Apple said her objection.

Apple said she didn’t want to move to second place because she had worked in that same place before and she considered her mom’s condition while shedding tears (later Rose said that it was crocodile tears).

Rose was pale, shocked, and uncomfortable.

I was snapped spontaneously; hey! You made the deal!

Apple said sorry and gave many excuses she could get and trying hard to look so sad, horrible, and needed sympathy. I didn’t buy that.

Rose, as quiet and patient as she is, kept silent but still looked shocked and pale.

The headmistress looked uneasy since she knew that Apple being unfair but she could not ignore the excuses that Apple gave. She is a sensitive lady and considerate.

The headmistress gave us time to think then left us.

Rose gave the same excuses over and over till the headmistress came back 15 minutes later.

Rose gave up.

Apple said thank you exaggerately and kept saying about her mom’s condition.

The meeting was over and we moved out from the headmistress office.

Rose still pale and wasn’t as cheerful as she was.

To break the ice, I told about a funny show that I watched on Youtube. Everyone laughed but Rose.

She left the room, saying that she would visit her mom who lives few metes away from our workplace.

We said nothing about the decision and by the time I needed to go home, Rose wasn’t back yet.

Around noon, I called Rose and asked whether she was okay.

She said she was okay but could not understand how come Apple flipped so fast when Rose name came out.

I said to her that I could replace her and move to the second area. She would still work here. But she refused, saying that she was happy to move since her soulmate (another teacher who treats her like a big sister) has moved as well but the problem is she dislikes Apple’s attitude.

I do understand her feeling. She felt betrayed.

Then I found out that they were not as close as we thought. Rose said that Apple had treated like this before, she would elbow people that are in the way to her aims.

I said I knew because once I had bad experience with her, how she was trying to manipulate me to get what she wanted. But sadly, she was unsuccessful. Sorry.

I told Rose that we just undergo our destiny. We just jump from one destiny to other destiny and I believe her pain will be replaced with good things in the future.

By first of March Rose will start working in the new place but I asked her to have lunch with me at pizza hut, only 3 of us, Rose, other friend, and me.

The ‘other friend’ is not Apple. No worry.

I just hope that the pizza will lighten her sadness little bit since I know she loves pizza so much.

See you again my friend. Your patience will be repaid with more success in the future.

Insha Allah💖🌹
